From Point-to-Point to Platform: DocMorris Modernizes Its Integration Architecture with SAP BTP

23rd June 2026

Using the SAP Integration Suite on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), DocMorris is replacing legacy interface structures with a unified, API-based integration architecture, thereby laying the foundation for scalable end-to-end processes.

The Dutch mail-order pharmacy DocMorris is a brand of the publicly traded DocMorris AG, headquartered in Frauenfeld, Switzerland. DocMorris has been Europe’s largest mail-order pharmacy since 2012 and employs approximately 1,600 people across various locations.

DocMorris’s legacy system landscape was historically characterized by a multitude of different integration scenarios—including an SAP PI/PO system, direct point-to-point connections, file-based interfaces via internal (S)FTP servers, and numerous custom interface developments.

As part of DocMorris’s architecture modernization, this heterogeneous integration landscape was completely migrated to the SAP Business Technology Platform—and thus to a modern, cloud-based integration platform.

The central element is the SAP Integration Suite, which today serves as a unified integration layer controlling all cross-system communication flows.

Depending on the use case, various components are used, including SAP Cloud Integration, API Management, Trading Partner Management, and SAP Event Mesh.

The transition to BTP specifically involves replacing SAP PI/PO as the central middleware component and establishing a consistent, cloud-based integration platform. As part of this process, existing interfaces were fundamentally modernized and rebuilt based on flexible standard integration scenarios as well as modern API- and event-based communication models.

Of particular relevance is the transition to an event-driven architecture (EDA), which enables significantly decoupled and scalable communication between systems. At the same time, API Management ensures the secure and controlled provision of data to external systems.

Through consistent standardization on SAP-based integration mechanisms, the complexity of the system landscape was significantly reduced, creating a future-proof foundation for end-to-end digital processes.
