SAP system audit at DocMorris

12th June 2018

DocMorris is Europe’s largest mail-order pharmacy with a turnover of more than EUR 400 million p.a. with its head office in Heerlen, Netherlands. As a subsidiary of Zur Rose Group AG, DocMorris stands for secure, top-quality and comprehensive pharmaceutical care and counselling of more than 4 million customers – via telephone, mail, web, video-based internet live chat or also via the DocMorris pharmacy app.

This results in an especially ambitious environment for the digital support of DocMorris’ business model in times of expansion and increasing business volumes. The objective: Ensuring the scalability of existing SAP application systems.

consenso was entrusted with the evaluation of the existing application systems, whether they are sufficiently designed and implemented to handle increasing business volumes, or they will be stretched to their limits in the course of the growth strategy due to the integration of e.g. new logistics systems or new pharmacy concepts.

In the context of an SAP system audit, consenso examined various levels of the enterprise architecture framework – on the one hand to focus on current important problems and, on the other hand, to holistically evaluate, if DocMorris is prepared for further strategic projects. For this purpose, the following levels were considered top-down:

  • Business architecture
Analysis and evaluation of the essential parts of the business architecture
  • SAP application architecture
  • Comparison of business and application architecture as well as identification of appropriate measures
  • Architectural system design
Analysis of the existing SAP system architecture and comparison with the application architecture’s requirements
  • Technical infrastructure
Evaluation of the technical SAP infrastructure regarding scalability of the business model, stability and security of the operation model

As a result, the audit enabled DocMorris to realise the principal weaknesses of the existing SAP landscape. Based on these findings, we identified optimisation measures to ensure stability and scalability of DocMorris’ system landscape and the SAP-based business processes to the necessary extend. In a follow-on project, consenso will support the implementation of these measures.
