TOM TAILOR successfully moves to the cloud with its GK OmniPOS POS solution and consenso
09th January 2025
TOM TAILOR is a mainstream lifestyle brand. The company offers durable quality at competitive prices and thus appeals to a broad target group segment. TOM TAILOR is currently represented in over 400 own retail stores, 170 franchise stores, over 2,300 shop-in-shops and more than 10,000 multi-brand points of sale as well as on major online platforms. With almost 3,000 employees and 8 core collections a year, TOM TAILOR is one of the leading companies in the industry.
After the successful go-live of SAP Omnichannel POS by GK and the completion of the international rollout of the POS solution in 2022, TOM TAILOR planned the next milestones with implementation partner consenso Consulting.
TOP 1 on the joint agenda: the transfer of the previous on-premise GK system to the cloud - naturally standards-based, without complex developments and capable of integration. TOP 2: connecting the cash registers to Salesforce/Emarsys.
The conversion of the GK checkouts from on-premise to the cloud reached its first milestone in September 2024 with the go-live of the TOM TAILOR pilot store. This already revealed a clear advantage of the new GK Cloud OmniPOS: the installation effort was significantly reduced compared to the on-premise solution.
Using the central GK Launchpad management console, cash registers can now be configured with just a few entries so that the generated activation key is sufficient to start the installation with just a few clicks. The cash register is then ready for operation without any further action, so that employees can log in directly and get started straight away.
As part of the project, the supply of items to the new cloud-based GK checkout was also optimised. By utilising sales and order data, the number of items sent to the checkouts was drastically reduced - from over 400,000 to 250,000 items in the outlets and under 100,000 items in the TOM TAILOR retail stores. This not only accelerated the supply of new collections, but also increased the performance of the checkouts.
The switch to a cloud-based GK solution has eliminated many of the technical and maintenance-related requirements that were still necessary with a classic on-premise solution in the hands of the customer. In addition, TOM TAILOR now benefits from increased efficiency, flexibility, security and scalability of the systems as well as the speed with which updates can be carried out.
Following the successful pilot phase, the rollout in Germany began at the end of September 2024. The stores in Austria and Switzerland will then be converted, followed by six other countries within the EU.
To improve customer satisfaction through enhanced CRM and customer loyalty functions, TOM TAILOR launched a project to introduce a new loyalty programme based on Salesforce in March 2023. Here, consenso was commissioned to set up an interface within the cash registers to Salesforce in order to intensify the interaction between customers and employees in stationary retail as well.
This was implemented using app enablement. This enables the integration of external apps into the POS solution, which includes both direct communication with the POS system and easy access to external web services via an API. In this way, we were able to realise the Salesforce extensions quickly and without interfering with the core system.
The following functions were successively integrated:
- Customer registration directly in the app: Manual entry of customer number/email or search by name with display of a hit list
- Display of customer information: Bonus points, status, next level, active vouchers
- Barcode rule for customer/voucher entry and app trigger via scanner
- Display of QR codes for vouchers on the checkout display in the absence of a smartphone
- App validation for active customers/vouchers
- Direct conversion of bonus points into immediately redeemable vouchers
The next milestone that we will realise together with TOM TAILOR in January 2025 is the integration of SAP Emarsys into the GK Cloud OmniPOS.
The first step is for the checkout to show whether the customer has already subscribed to the newsletter after they have been recorded. If this is not the case, employees can trigger the opt-in process directly via the checkout after consulting with the customer, whereupon an email is automatically sent to the customer.
We would like to thank TOM TAILOR for the trust they have placed in us and for the very good, cooperative partnership and look forward to the upcoming activities.
