Challenge: Increasing data volumes and complex master data quality requirements

Master data quality forms the foundation of GLOBUS’s business processes and is essential for a smooth-running supply chain. In the past, GLOBUS Markthallen Deutschland used an established tool to ensure data quality. However, as data volumes grew and requirements became more complex, the tool increasingly reached its limits.

Insufficient integration, limited scalability and a high level of manual effort led to process delays and an increased workload for business departments as data validation volumes continued to rise. Processing data through Excel downloads and uploads resulted in disconnected workflows, inefficiencies and a greater risk of errors.

The solution also lacked flexibility: it was limited to article master data, operated in weekly cycles and provided only static analyses.

Requirements for a modern SAP master data solution

For GLOBUS, it was clear that a new, high-performance data quality solution was needed. The requirements included:

• A comprehensive view of all relevant SAP objects (master and transactional data)
• Multiple data validation and correction runs throughout the day
• Flexible ad-hoc analyses
• Integrated and largely automated data corrections

These requirements were met by Intelligent Data Modelling (iDM), a consulting solution developed by implementation partner consenso.

Project objectives

The project to introduce iDM was initiated with the following objectives:

• Replace the existing tool for ensuring article data quality
• Introduce a largely automated, fully SAP-integrated solution without disconnected workflows
• Extend quality checks to all relevant master and transactional data
• Reduce manual effort, significantly lower error rates and shorten processing times

The solution: SAP-based data management with iDM

The fully integrated consenso iDM solution is based on proven SAP standard technologies and harnesses the capabilities of the SAP HANA database. The modular framework supports the entire master data management process – from creating new records and ensuring data quality through to automated corrections.

The implementation was successfully completed in just four months by a joint project team comprising two consenso consultants and four to five GLOBUS employees.

Migration of existing rules and introduction of flexible master data checks

In the first step, all existing validation rules were migrated to the new system. GLOBUS particularly values the high level of flexibility the solution now offers: through a user-friendly, mobile-optimised SAP Fiori interface, business departments can independently create new data quality rules without any programming.

Automated corrections and efficient error handling

The second step involved implementing the appropriate correction logic. Incorrect data is now largely corrected automatically. Any remaining errors are displayed in the central SAP Fiori dashboard, from which employees can navigate directly to the relevant transactions in the target system – significantly improving efficiency in day-to-day operations.
