Successful implementation of consenso Intelligent Data Modelling (iDM) at GLOBUS

6th January 2026

The history of GLOBUS, based in St. Wendel in the Saarland, dates back to 1828. Since then, Globus has grown into one of the leading retail companies in Germany - as a family business in its 6th generation.

In addition to more than 60 market halls and 88 DIY stores in Germany, the GLOBUS Group also operates 16 hypermarkets in the Czech Republic, two Czech GLOBUS Fresh stores and two DIY stores in Luxembourg.

Challenge: Increasing data volumes and complex requirements regarding master data quality

Master data quality is the backbone of GLOBUS' business processes and essential for a smooth supply chain. For this purpose, GLOBUS Markthallen Deutschland used to rely on a tried-and-tested tool – however, with growing data volumes and rising complexity, this tool increasingly reached its limits.

Insufficient integration, limited scalability and high manual effort led to delays in processes and additional workloads in the business departments in view of increasing test volumes. Data processing via Excel downloads and uploads resulted in media disruptions, inefficiencies and an increased error rate. There was also a lack of flexibility: the solution was limited to article data, worked in weekly cycles and only offered static analyses.

Requirements to a modern SAP master data solution

GLOBUS realised that it needed a new, high-performance data quality solution. This required:

  • a holistic view of all relevant SAP objects (master and transaction data),
  • intraday check and correction runs,
  • flexible ad-hoc analyses,
  • and integrated, automated data corrections wherever possible.

These requirements were met by the Intelligent Data Modelling (iDM) consulting solution provided by implementation partner consenso.

Objective of the project

The project initiated to introduce iDM pursued the following objectives:

  • Replacement of the existing tool used to ensure article data quality
  • Introduction of a largely automated, fully SAP-integrated solution without media disruptions
  • Expansion of quality checks to all relevant master and transaction data
  • Reduction of manual efforts – including significant reduction in the error rate and shorter processing times

The solution: SAP-based data management with iDM

consenso's fully integrated iDM is based on proven SAP standard technologies and utilises the power of the SAP HANA database. The modular framework supports the entire master data maintenance process – from creating new data through quality assurance to automated corrections.

The implementation was successfully realised in just four months by a joint project team consisting of two consenso consultants and four to five GLOBUS employees.

Transfer of existing rules and introduction of flexible master data checks

In a first step, all existing quality rules were transferred to the new system. Today, GLOBUS particularly appreciates the high level of flexibility: the user-friendly, mobile-optimised SAP Fiori interface enables the business departments to create new quality rules independently and without programming.

Automated corrections and efficient error handling

The second step involved implementing the relevant correction logic. Now, faulty data is corrected more or less automatically. Remaining cases are displayed in the central SAP Fiori dashboard, allowing employees to jump directly to the target system for processing – a major efficiency boost in day-to-day business.

Measurable results: Higher data quality, less effort, more efficiency

In productive operation, the new iDM demonstrates impressive reliability, resource conservation and significantly improved data quality:

  • 30% of errors are already corrected on a fully automated basis in real time.
  • The manual effort has been reduced from three to one day.
  • Over 100 implemented rules can check millions of data records every day and correct several thousand of them automatically.

Thus, GLOBUS employees benefit from a modern, automated solution for master data quality – fully SAP-integrated and future-proof.

Outlook: Further development of SAP data management at GLOBUS

The successful completion of the project marks just the beginning. The iDM framework is to be successively expanded and fully integrated into GLOBUS' SAP S/4HANA landscape in the future.

Planned extensions include:

  • the integration of further relevant SAP objects such as business partner,
  • the use of GenAI for the automatic completion of master data,
  • as well as the option to transparently show suppliers the quality of their transmitted data in future.

Thank you very much!

We would like to express our sincere thanks for the cooperative partnership in this exciting and successful project and look forward to taking further steps together.
